Syntax Gallery provides a platform to facilitate the interaction between different generations of artists and creative strategies and supports Russian contemporary art on the global market.

One of the principal domains of the gallery's curatorial research is the study of text in visual culture as an integral element of artistic mediums that manifests itself in the works of artists from different generations represented by the gallery.

The introduction of text into visual culture started at the beginning of the 20th century and is still pertinent today. Artists are constantly on the lookout for new mediums that can help them to convey their ideas and interpret all the processes taking place in the world, where text has long been a part of the culture code.

In conceptual art, and especially Sots Art, text becomes the slogan, the meaning of the work. Alexander Kosolapov follows the socialist realism tradition of using text to decipher images from different cultures. The younger generation of artists can be characterized by text-centredness, as text often becomes the only element of the work, e.g. in street art. For example, Kirill Kto's practice evolved from murals to paintings.

The study of the relationship between different mediums and their evolution throughout the oeuvres of established artists is another major direction of Syntax's curatorial research.

New media artist Dmitry Bulnygin mixes traditional techniques with modern technologies: sculpture and video mapping, painting and street art, performance and video. In Bulnygin's works, the new genre inherits the features of the past one, which is a practice not limited to this artist but a distinct feature of contemporary art as a whole. Artists of the younger generation, conversely, are switching from new media to more traditional forms – the series of works on paper that broadcast white noise, pixel noise and glitches inherent to analog video by Evgeny Granilshchikov or by Andrey Anro's paintings, whose composition is based on film stills and photographs.

Syntax Gallery fosters interaction between artists and their creative strategies. The artists represented by Syntax are transforming the visual narrative with the help of sign systems and new media. The gallery explores the interaction between opposing artistic practices and the clash between traditional media and digital technologies.
